Hello friends! I found this poem by British-Indian poet Nikita Gill this week. I immediately knew I wanted to have it in my sketchbook. I sketched and lettered the page below this afternoon, and I wanted to share it with you, too.
What is a flower-hearted person? For me, it speaks of kindness. A heart filled to overflowing with kindness and compassion.
There is so much complicated and challenging stuff going on in the world around us, and it can be overwhelming, can’t it? I don’t know about you, but I feel helpless in understanding how to make a difference. It’s easy to forget that practising kindness, even in the tiniest ways, can counter the torrent of anguish fired at us minute by minute.
It all seems a little hippy-woo-woo and “all you need is love”-ish — perhaps naive. Still, I would encourage you to take some time to read through this post on Cup of Jo, including the comments, to see just how much impact kindness can have. (Warning: have your tissues on hand)
It takes courage to be kind in a world like ours. Be kind to others; be kind to yourself. It’s not difficult, really.
